Position Summary:

Working closely with the Academic Coordinator, the teacher is responsible for increasing the academic achievement of elementary, middle or high school age after-school students by effectively engaging students in learning utilizing research-based curriculum. The teacher will be responsible for planning, creating and carrying out lesson plans that meet the individual needs of the students and the overall goals of he program. S/he will meet regularly and plan with the Site Director and Academic Coordinator. The teacher is located in a public school, community based center or Y Family Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide engaging lessons that help students master academic skills and meet program goals. Create and implement lesson plans. Communicate regularly with the academic coordinator and site director. Complete reports and provide data as required by the Academic Coordinator. Track progress of students and provide differentiated instruction Monitor and supervise student activity in hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, and entrance ways. Escort students to proper locations as necessary. Maintains accurate registration, attendance, and schedule records via software. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION -

Certified Teaching Certificate

Bachelor's Degree or higher in education preferred.

EXPERIENCE -

1-2 years' experience with targeted population preferred, but not required.

Experience with classroom and behavior management.

Experience writing and implementing academic lesson plans.

Experience with project based learning.

SKILLS -

Good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with school personnel, students and parents.

Ability to respond to emergency situation while maintaining composure and demonstrating appropriate professionalism and restraint at all times.

Ability to assist in chaperoning field trips.

Basic level knowledge of working a computer for data entry.

Capacity to develop effective working relationships with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physically able to successfully complete required job functions, including use of hands, arms, fingers, able to talk and hear, use a computer, sit and stand, regularly move/lift up to 50 pounds, enter all Y environments (office spaces, indoor and outdoor maintenance/mechanical areas, fitness areas, pool and pool space, camping areas, unimproved outdoor locations and other program areas).

Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties
